Therapeutic Body MassageRELEASING PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL ANXIETY AND STRESS
What is it?
Therapeutic Body Massage (TBM) is a form of massage which uses the application of deep or light massage strokes to the soft tissue of the body (muscles, tendons, ligaments) to relax the muscles and increase the blood and lymph flow. Different massage strokes are used to vary the pressure and different stretching movements are used to loosen tense muscles, stiff joints and to break up fibrous tissue and release toxins.
What does it feel like?
You will usually be lying down, wearing underwear only and the therapist covers the parts of the body not being worked on, with towels. Base oils or ready-blended oils will be applied to the body before applying the massage strokes. Treatments can be adjusted according to your need, either to relax or to energise you. The level of pressure can be adjusted according to your own preference or in accordance with the purpose of the treatment.
What are the benefits?
From a physical perspective, TBM promotes relaxation and alleviates tension within stiff muscles and hence can help improve your overall range of motion. Mentally, TBM helps us unwind from the stresses and strains of daily life. All of us, regardless of the nature or intensity of our work, need time to switch off and TBM can help us relax, step back and attain a clearer perspective on life. Emotionally, the release of stress and tension in the body itself can often trigger a release and clearing of emotions that may have been held for some time.
Who is it for?
TBM can help support people to alleviate and release the following symptoms:
- Neck and back pain and poor posture
- Stress, anxiety or insomnia
- Weak, tight or atrophied muscles
- Sports injuries or musculo-skeletal problems
- High blood pressure
- Discomfort during pregnancy
Please note that such treatment can help to bring comfort and improve quality of life but is a complement, not an alternative, to conventional medical care.
